Contemporary Workshop with Jessi Donley (Co-Founder of DG)


Join Dancing Grounds' Co-Founder Jessi Donley for a special Contemporary Workshop! Organic Contemporary with Jessi (Co-Founder of DG) Wednesday, November 8 from 7:30-8:45pm $12 Drop Ins | FREE for DG Members Experience dance from the ground-up! Organic Contemporary is a dance approach that incorporates movements and rhythms from South Louisiana and other parts of the world. It focuses on the communication between dance and music and how they motivate and inspire the other. Experience movement from the inside-out! This class incorporates mindfulness and guided meditation as a way to dance from a more visceral place. Organic Contemporary class involves guided meditation, yoga, breathe work, full body conditioning, short combinations, across the floor and repertoire. About Jessi: Jessica Donley grew up in South Louisiana, right outside of New Orleans. She has been dancing social dances such as Cajun, Zydeco, Swing-Out, Hip Hop and the New Orleans Second Line since she could walk. Jessica has studied ballet, modern and jazz techniques as a way to enter the professional dance world, however her passion remains for the more organic movement styles. She is keen on learning as many dance forms and rhythms of the African Diaspora in the Americas and in Africa. She earned her BAS from Louisiana State University in Cultural Anthropology and Dance. She lived and served two and a half years in the Peace Corps in Esmeraldas, Ecuador. She formed her own contemporary dance group, Donley Dance Project in 2010 which works have been nominated for 2 New Orleans Classical Arts Awards. Jessica has been refining her own movement technique- Organic Contemporary. She is the co-founder of a dynamic non-profit organization, Dancing Grounds. She has been teaching and choreographing dance works for 15 years. She has studied and performed with master teachers such as Titos Sompa (Congo) and Seguenon Kone (Cote d’Ivoire), La Mora (Cuba) Rosangela Sylvester (Brazil) and others. She traveled and studied dance in various countries such as Canada, Ecuador, Argentina, India, Nepal, Thailand, Bali, Bulgaria, Spain, Portugal and more. Her newest artistic endeavor involves dancing from the womb and the juicy centre of the sacral chakra. Jessica currently enjoys traveling, writing and teaching dance and yoga internationally.
