Tickets $20 per person "DANCING our way HOME" has been a seven month project, led by Tamalyn Dallal, in which dancers in New Orleans, Covington, Baton Rouge and Ocean Springs, Ms. study about the roots of Middle Eastern dance, music and culture, searching from remote outposts along the Silk Road to the cultural centers of Cordoba, Cairo, and Constantinople. Through empires and trade routes, we've studied history, culture and music. We've explored the correlation between the origins of movement in our own bodies, and the origin of musical styles across the globe. Through hundreds of years, we realize that our dance did not originate in a night club. We have shared women's parties, workshops, and film showings, dancing for one another in the spirit of Oriental dance before orientalism, and before it became "bellydance". Now, for the grand finale, This show tells a story... A story of the many ways to long for home. The displaced, the nomads, the women who must dance in secret, and the grand and multicolored kaleidescope that is our world.
