Contemporary Performance Intensive with Maritza Mercado-Narcisse
Join Maritza Mercado-Narcisse for a special Contemporary Performance Intensive consisting of two, 1 hr and 45 minute classes on Saturdays, August 20th and 27th from 10:30am-12:15pm. Designed for intermediate/advanced dancers with a consistent movement practice, the class will begin with a floor based warm-up, leading into center work, improvisational investigation and culminating with repertory based on Maritza's award-winning choreography. This two-class intensive will culminate in an informal presentation on August 27th at 12:15pm, followed by a short reception and celebration in Dancing Grounds' lobby. Saturday, August 20 - 10:30am-12:15pm Saturday, August 27 - 10:30am-12:15pm FREE for DG members $25 package for both workshops $15 drop in for individual session About Maritza: Maritza Mercado-Narcisse is a celebrated New Orleans-based choreographer, performer and, teacher. She currently teaches at the Isadore Newman School and previously taught for Lusher Charter School and the New Orleans Ballet Association. In 2016, she won the Classical Arts Award for Best Modern Dance Presentation. She was selected as the first Distillery Artist Residency with the Contemporary Arts Center New Orleans in 2014. Other awards include a Louisiana Division of the Arts Artist Fellowship in 2007 and a Creative Development residency from The Jacob's Pillow Foundation in 2006. She received her early dance training from the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts and the Alvin Ailey American Dance Center.
