New Orleans Ballet Association: Educating and performing for more than 40 years.
Jenny Hamilton is executive director of the New Orleans Ballet Association (NOBA). NOBA is a remarkable organization that has introduced New Orleanians of all ages to ballet for more than 40 years. The association's EDUCATION PROGRAMSoffer over 5,500 tuition-free dance classes and activities in three parishes to kids three to 18 years old. NOBA also has fitnessPROGRAMS for adults and senior citizens. Some listeners may be surprised to learn how many of our youth are interested in ballet. However, Jenny points out that dance is a big part of culture in New Orleans and the surrounding areas, so ballet is a natural fit. In addition to NOBA’s community activities, it also hosts performances by internationally renown dance companies. The Limón Dance Company, founded by icon of modern dance, José Limón, will close out this season with a performance on May 9, 2015. Founder José Limón's signature piece, The Moor's Pavane, considered by some to be one of the greatest works of 20th century modern dance, will be a highlight of the performance.
