Contemporary Ballet with Demetia (former Alvin Ailey dancer)

DG is excited to welcome Demetia Hopkins-Greene to DG for a special ballet class. Come on out Tuesday, November 14th for a chance to learn the basics of ballet with a seasoned industry professional - and former dancer with the Alvin Ailey Dance Theater! Super Beginner Contemporary Ballet with Demetia (former Alvin Ailey dancer) Tuesday, November 14 | 6-7:15pm (in place of Absolute Beg Ballet) Join Demetia, a former Ailey company member, for an introduction to contemporary ballet. Contemporary ballet takes the fundamentals of ballet technique and mixes them up with contemporary styles of today, including inversions, floor work, and release technique. This class is designed for true and advanced beginners. We'll start with a warm up, move to across the floor, some basic body conditioning, and learn a center floor combination to round out the class time. Come experience a mix up of styles with Demetia, who's in town from NYC! About Demetia: DEMETIA HOPKINS-GREENE (Co-Artistic Director) began her dance training at the Orange School of Performing Arts under the direction of her uncle, Ricardo Porter, and Heather Powell. Mrs. Hopkins-Greene graduated with honors from the Ailey/Fordham B.F.A. Program in 2009 while a member of Ailey II. In 2010 she joined the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. During her six year tenure in the company, she was honored to perform ballets by prestigious choreographers such as Bill T. Jones, Kyle Abraham, Jiri Kylian, Robert Battle, Wayne McGregor, Ulysses Dove, Ronald K. Brown, Ohad Naharan, Judith Jamison, and a multitude of roles from Alvin Ailey’s repertory including his signature solo Cry. Demetia was a recipient of a Leonore Annenberg Fellowship in the Arts in 2011 and was named one of Dance Magazines 2014 “Top 25 To Watch”. Her most recent endeavors include collaborations with choreographers Diane McIntyre, Francesca Harper, Marcus Jarrell Willis, Maleek Washington. Demetia is currently a freelance artist and dance educator living and working in New York City. She is proud to be Co-Artistic Director of the Orange School of Performing Arts.
