Initially created and developed in Broadway musicals. At the heart of my class of Broadway jazz lies the technique of American choreographer Matt Mattox, who in turn learned a lot from one of the founders of jazz dance, Jack Cole. Jack Cole integrated into jazz dance a variety of different styles of choreography: folk dance, Indian dance, tap dance and classical ballet. Because of this Broadway jazz can express any images and characters in performance. This class is dedicated to the nature and quality of the movement in jazz. Coordination, impulses and getting rid of unnecessary tension is a guarantee of easy and quick displacement of the center of weight of the body both in the vertical and horizontal planes, as well as isolated centers. We will look at the basic principles of jazz dance technique with simple exercises by using coordination of different body parts movement and changing timing and rhythm with the music. The class ends with a combination based on the learned principles in the style of modern Broadway jazz dance with its inherent expressiveness and emotionality.
