Le Petit Theatre: Pippin Auditions


DESCRIPTION

Le Petit Théâtre du Vieux Carré, New Orleans’ most historic playhouse, announces auditions for Pippin, playing September 16- October 2, 2016. Seeking both AEA and non-AEA actors. There is pay. AEA-NOLA Category “C”.

Auditions will be held by appointment on Monday and Tuesday, June 27 & 28, 2016 at the recital hall at Dixon Hall Annex, Tulane University, New Orleans, from 3:00-9:00pm. Walk-in auditions will be accepted if time permits. All AEA members who walk-in will be seen on a preferential basis.

AUDITION GUIDELINES

Please bring a physical copy of your headshot and resume.

Material: Please indicate which role(s) you are interested in when emailing to schedule your audition. Sides will be emailed to you at the time your audition is confirmed, along with 32 bars from the show. Please have an additional song ready to present if asked.

A dance audition will be held during the callbacks on June 30, 2016.

SEEKING

All Characters are part of a traveling acting troupe, perhaps evocative of the street performers of the French Quarter. Strong singing, dancing, and circus skills. The director is very interested in assembling a diverse cast.

LEADING PLAYER: (MALE or FEMALE) Strong singer dancer, strong comedic & narrating skills. Must command the stage, entertain the audience and have an air of magic and mystery.

PIPPIN: (MALE; plays mid-20’s) Strong Tenor & Actor. Charlemagne’s eldest son, searching for Greatness.

CHARLEMAGNE: (MALE; plays 40-50 yrs.) Lyric Baritone, Strong Actor. The king & Pippin’s father. A Warrior.

LEWIS: (MALE; plays 18-25 yrs.) Non-singing, character actor. Pippin’s younger brother. A “star” soldier, a proud, strong egotist, not too bright.

FASTRADA: (FEMALE, plays 40-50 yrs.) Soprano, character actor. Pippin’s mother and Charlemagne’s conniving and manipulative wife. The Queen.

BERTHE: (FEMALE, plays 70-80 yrs.) Alto, Character Actor. Pippin’s energetic and comedic grandmother. Charlemagne’s mother.

CATHERINE: (FEMALE; plays mid-20’s) Mezzo, Strong Actor. Pippin’s quirky leading lady and mother to young Theo.

THEO: (MALE; plays 9-16 yrs.) Catherine’s young son, step-son to Pippin.

PLAYERS: (5M, 5F) Strong Dancers, Strong Singers, Acrobats and Actors, Circus Performers for several musical numbers. Some ensemble members will also play roles with speaking lines, including soldiers, monks, newscasters, peasants, nobles and others.
