THE FUTURE OF THE MARIGNY OPERA HOUSE DANCE COMPANY: A NEW SEASON 2015/2016—AND A NEW NAME
(NEW ORLEANS, LA – April 6, 2015) Marigny Opera House Dance Company Directors Spencer Doyle and Dave Hurlbert have announced an expanded performance season for 2015/2016, which will include two original full-length ballets. Francis Scully, Director of the New Resonance Chamber Orchestra, will become the company’s Music Director. The Directors also announced that the company’s name will be changed from Marigny Opera House Dance Company to Marigny Opera Ballet.
“Marigny Opera Ballet better reflects who we are as a company,” said Dave Hurlbert, Co-Director. “It’s what the public—and even one of our choreographers—has been calling the company since the beginning. And it’s more accurate: all six of our dancers are professionally trained in ballet as well as modern technique. Half of our company classes are ballet, and this is reflected in our performances.”
The Company’s Second Season features four programs:
“Orfeo” (premiere) (October 2-4, 2015) – an original full-length work by Maya Taylor with a commissioned score by local composer Tucker Fuller. The ballet recounts the ancient Greek myth of Orfeo and Eurydice. “Christmas Concerto” (premiere) (December 10-13, 2015) – a full-length work to music of Arcangelo Corelli and other Baroque masters “Emerging Choreographers” (March 18-20, 2016) – new works by promising local choreographers “Program 4 – Mixed Repertory” (May 20-22, 2016) – audience favorites from the Company’s inaugural season

About the Marigny Opera Ballet Founded in 2014 as the Marigny Opera House Dance Company, the Marigny Opera Ballet is a professional contemporary ballet company based in the Marigny Opera House of New Orleans. Its award-winning inaugural 2014/2015 season included the works of three New Orleans-based choreographers, Donna Crump, Diogo de Lima and Maya Taylor. The Ballet performs to live music, frequently newly-commissioned works by local composers. About the Marigny Opera House The Marigny Opera House is a non-denominational church of the arts. Its purpose is to support local performing artists and the community at large, and to present performances of modern dance, classical music and musical theater. The church is home to the Marigny Opera Ballet, which was founded in 2014.
